  5. Joe Asghedom , from Lansing, has been elected as the new president of AEFM

    by the general membership in a meeting held on February 18, 2007. According to the by-laws of the association Joe will be serving as President for two years
    term. Congratulations Joe!

  6. AEFM's former president, Dr. Eyassu Habte-Gabr, spent a month from mid November to mid December for a volunteer work at the Orotta School of Medicine

  10. The second major shipment of a large container full of books collected by AEFM for the EIT book project was shipped from the storage place
    in Flint on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 on its way to Eritrea for the Eritrean Institute of Technology (EIT). Click on the link below to see pictures of some
    of the volunteers working in the cataloging, packing and loading of the books. There are a lot more volunteers not captured in these pictures who tirelessly
    worked to make this project a success.

  12. On Thursday, February 17 from 5-8 p.m. AEFM in collaboration with the University ofMichigan Flint, the International Institute of Flint and
    the FlintInstitute of Arts will host a lecture on "US and Africa - a Global Perspective", by Professor David Wiley of Michigan State University.
    This is part of the African American heritage month celebration. The program will also include display of African Artifacts and Tasting of African food.

    -- From I-96, exit on Leonard St/Road (pass the I-196 branching off);

    -- After about 0.75 miles, you will see the church on your right.


    NOTE: if you go a steep down hill and find Knapps St., you have gone too far.

    COLLEGE GOAL SUNDAY - February 12, 2006 College Goal Sunday, now in its third year inMichigan, is part of a nationwide annual event wheremore than 200 Michigan Financial Aid Associationprofessionals and others volunteer to help familiescomplete their Free Application for Federal StudentAid (FAFSA). The event takes place from 2:00 PM - 4:00PM on February 12, 2006. There are 23 sites locatedthroughout the state (listed below). Students andfamilies may attend any site.   16. Hurley Medical Center and The International Institute of Flint Present A Multi-Cultural Lunch & Learn SeriesFeaturing Eritrea, on Wednesday February 15, 2006. Dr. Eyassu Habte-Gabr, AEFM's president will be giving a seminar about Eritrea. The program starts at 11:30 a.m. and finishes at 1:00 p.m. It is free and open to the public. But the organizers appreciate those who would like to attend to give them a call at (810) 257-9885 and leave on the answering machine name and number of people who are coming, so that it helps them in planning.

  17. Understanding Africa 2006.

    AEFM in collaboration with the University of Michigan, Flint and the International Institute of Flint is co-sponsoring a celebration of the annual African-American Heritage month on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the International Institute of Flint.
